Things To Know Before Organizing A Wine Tasting Club

A wine tasting organization or a wine tasting club, for that matter, is similar to a book club although, the term of being alike is through wine definitions of a person’s preference. Even so, a wine organization is something that you can organize yourself most especially if you’re that type of person who loves lingering on and sharing the goodness of wine. Gatherings of different people of different status quo are to be expected in a wine club. Some may know so much about multiple wines and some may just want to know more.

What do these people usually do? Fine, in general, persons involved in a wine club are among those who are typically interested in meeting together at a certain period of time, taste a old or new type of wine, judge it, then chat about it. Clubs regarding wines are definitely enjoyable and at the same time, educational especially if spent with friends. Clubs which focus on tasting wine alone are not similar to that other club of wine dealers that ship in and ship out wines.

If you’re planning to organize a club for wine tasters, here are some tips to be able to prepare you for the predictable and unpredictable even before you recruit friends and familiar strangers into your own-built society. A lot of clubs for tasting wine fall apart because they fail to recognize some of the vital aspects of the game. What do you need?

1. Be informed. One thing that separates one person from the other is the truth of how much one knows about a particular topic. If you are the master regarding wines, then consider your knowledge as a door for people to be encouraged to join your club otherwise read more about wines extensively. Truths related to wine like how it is fermented, refined, a bit of history, derived, selling price, etc. Be sure that you, as the organizer, knows more on wine above your members.

2. Intimate relationship. Keeping a small group of people who are readily determined to stick to the organization is better than having several hundreds of undecided and doubtful minds. In numbers, the maximum member one can have is thirty people. Consider the reasons why you should prefer a smaller number of people rather than a big crowd. Some of the reasons why one should stop at a certain number of participants is that you won’t be needing a wide space for meetings or gatherings; the more people you have the more number of bottles you’ll be needing in order to sustain the number. When one says tasting, you regard to it as something that needs intimacy and not just another house party.

3.  Purchase a good wine. If you tend to worry about how much it would cost you to buy a wine that’s suitable for everybody’s taste buds, don’t. On an average basis, some of the best wines cost approximately about 25 to 40 dollars every bottle which, you can split the amount among your members. This can be very reasonable in terms of just tasting the drink.

Gathering a number of people for a wine tasting organization is not hard to do. You just have to maintain an idea that will serve your members and feed them with the appropriate amount of satisfaction to stay in the group.

Storing Your Wine for Optimal Taste

If you like wine, as I do, you can find any occasion to open a bottle. You may have a bottle or two around the house. That’s what I always did, that way I was always ready for a last minute guest or event, but I didn’t know one thing: how to store my wine properly.

There’s a lot of wine rules and standards that a bunch of wine enthusiast follow, but Ii was never one to follow them. I assumed that knowing the basics was all I needed to enjoy my wine just enough, without overdoing it. At first, I didn’t use a Ravenscroft wine decanter or even gave a second thought to the type of wine glasses I was using. This went for how I stored my wine as well. I decided to try something different, I stored my wine the right way and it made a huge difference in the taste of the wine.

Temperature: It does not matter what kind of wine you have, it should always be stored in a cool dry place! This is why wine enthusiast have wine cellars, for optimal taste! The best temperature for wine storage is approximately 55 degrees F.Any warmer than this temperature and you will definitly notice a difference in the taste of your wine. Try to keep your wine at a constant temperature, as this change will dramatically change the taste of your wine.

Light: Make sure if you want your wine to retain its original full flavor, that you store it in a place where not a lot of light can get at it. If a bottle of wine is in the light for extended periods of time, it will age the wine considerably, affecting its flavors.

Humidity: Another key consideration when it comes to optimal wine storage is making sure that the humidity levels are just right. Overall, It should be more humid than not in order to keep the wine corks from shrinking. Air will oxidize your wine, so make sure you don’t get cork shrinkage. So, what the right humidity level for storing wine? Between 65-75%. This is why damp basements and cellars can work so well for wine storage.

Sideways: So many wine racks and cellars hold their wine bottles sideways instead of upright, this may seem a strange one to some, but it’s worked for thousands of years? Yes. It is because in order to ensure that the cork is protected from shrinking, it needs to stay moist. That said, the best way to keep the cork moist is to store your wine on it’s side.

Travel: When traveling with your wine, you know, to a party or to a BYOB resaurant be sure to use a wine tote bag. This will protect your wine while boucing around during transport and hold the temerature as well.

Store Wine Properly

A simple method of wine storage is to keep your bottles sideways in a dark place away from heat or light. Doing so will minimize damage (mainly in terms of deterioration of taste and flavors) to the wine and allow you to store it for as long as you desire. However, knowing a bit more about wine storage will help you get the best out of your bottles.

Temperature is the most important factor to pay attention to. Wine should normally be stored between 50-60F, although a range of 45-65F is considered OK. If your temperature is too low, your wine will not age properly. Whereas, warmer temperatures can cause wine to age prematurely (not in a good way).

The worst thing you can do to your wine is subject it to varying temperatures. It’s much better to keep your wine at a constant temperature, even if it is too high or too low, than to subject it to large fluctuations every day. The temperature should never fluctuate more than 5 degrees a day, especially with red wines, which suffer more temperature-related problems than white wines.

Humidity is also important as, unless its properly maintained, it can cause the cork to dry out, and this allows air to come into contact with the wine (which damages it). Try to keep your storage areas humidity level at around 70 to 80 percent, you can buy a hygrometer to keep track of this.

A wine cellar is the ideal place for storing wine because it maintains the optimal humidity and temperature; however, they aren’t practical for most people because of their size and cost. However, you can mimic the conditions of a wine cellar in a basement or garage. Making some space in either and purchasing a wine rack and temperature / humidity gauge are highly recommended if you intend on storing more than a few bottles of wine at a time.

If you’re wondering how long to store your wine for, the answer is complicated; many factors contribute to storage length, not limited to the production technique, style of wine, and region where it was produced. In general though, you should drink whites quickly and age reds for five to 10 years. If you’re starting out, aging charts (which are available free online) can help you see when a wine is typically best enjoyed.
